Here's some family history about Coast Guard Signalman First Class Douglas Albert Munro:
He left no dependents, but had a sister named Patricia. She married and had a son named Douglas Sheehan, who joined the Coast Guard and attained the rank of Commander. When the Douglas A. Munro Coast Guard Headquarters Building was dedicated in 2013, the family members in attendance were the descendants of Douglas Sheehan as Douglas Munro left no direct descendants. They included his son Chris, his grandson Ty and his three great grandchildren; Eliza, Jacob and Etta. Also in attendance was Jessica Sheehan, the children’s mother. Jessica Sheehan’s maiden name is Jessica Ashley Pryor -- she is my daughter. I am the grandfather of Eliza, Jacob and Etta Sheehan.

SPC Nancy Greene - You cold be correct about us not being related, but my paternal grandmother was a first generation American -- the daughter of two German immigrants. I just don't know what part of Germany from where they hailed. You saw me get all over our favorite troll, JDH, about her racism. Well I came by my hatred of racism honestly. My grandmother of German ancestry died when I was six years old. When I was four years old I tried climbing on her lap and she pushed me off, saying she didn't want a "half bread" on her lap. My older brother and I never talked to the bitch again. We certainly didn't shed a tear at her passing.

Thanks, MSgt Paul Connors - That's really interesting. I'll pass that along to my daughter. She may already know, but I didn't.

SGT Robert Pryor, my maternal grandfather and his brother were selected to go to the SS school. My great grandfather was a very wealthy German. My grandfather was born in 1899. When my great grandfather received the letter from the SS School, he requested time to take his boys on ‘holiday’ before starting school. They all packed a bag, got in a ship, docked in NY, and never looked back! Seems we both have German ancestry in common. I didn’t know the German Meyers were from Strasbourg until a few years ago. I didn’t know this when I was stationed in Garlstedt or I would have researched Strasbourg for relatives; however, they left prior to WWI. SGT Robert Pryor

LTC Stephen C. currently the 13th Coast Guard District Chief Petty Officers Association has an annual weekend where volunteers go and field day the area and keep it looking good.

It had fallen into disrepair in the 70’s and the local Coasties have decided that was just not right.

I met a Coastie yesterday who served in Vietnam. There have been many unsung heroes in the Coast Guard.
