Help Me Lay My Father to Rest

My father always told me, that this at least was covered because of his time in service.That is only partially correct, the plot at the national cemetery , yes is provided, but not the coffin, the preparation of the body, the transportation of the body from the morgue to mortuary for prep, and from their to the cemetary is not covered, head stone is not covered. I have not been able to work in the last month I have been caring for him. There is no resource for food much less funeral. I need help to lay my father to rest. I shouldnt, but I do, on all counts I should have been aware.

Adler SGT (Join to see) LT (Join to see) A1C (Join to see) He passed away yesterday at 4:50 pm from complications arising his surgery to remove service related brain tumor. I have spent every second of the last month by his side, and he was doing so well, then I woke to him moaning and calling for help. HIs temp was 103.2 I packed icepacks around him and gave him tylenol to bring his temp down, i wanted to take him to er but he said call his nurse and see what they say because he did not want to go back to hospital unless it was necessary. I called his nurse came out and on video declared it to be the flu, and called the doc and hung up saying flu, i asked still on video are you sure this isnt infection, he said no its the flu er not necessary just keep giving him tylenol and they added a high dose of lasik to dry any liquid from his lungs (causing further dehydration which ultimately caused his kidneys to fail) I asked from what they had decided this was only the flu, dad was not going out, more than two weeks since his hospitilization and none in the house have flu. Did one of his aides have the flu, he said yes Alex his cna had the flu, I accepted that since he is a nurse and had phone consulted their doctor. (NO SWAB NO TEST) I didnt sleep kept damp cool cloths on his forehead gave him tylenol every 4 hours. This at least kept his temp down to 100.2-100.4 His nurse was supposed to come first thing in the morning he called me at 725 am saying he was in route and was about 15 min away. He already knew I had to be at court, no option, too late for extension, his nurse had planned with me to be there for the first hour the cna was to be there the remainder of the time and I had someone at the house to sit with him just in case. Nalonie was with him when i left, and i gave her instructions to check his temp every hour, tylenol every 4 and call me if it rose above 100.8 or any issues. The nurse was already in route so while I didnt feel comfortable in leaving even for two hours, I at least knew his nurse would be there. I came home from court, dad was alone, his temp was 104 and he was hallucinating. The woman was there but not with him and she was too far to hear him call and obviously had not been checking on him, the nurse who was by the time i left according to him perhaps five minutes away, had not shown, neither had the aid. I called an ambulance and his aid arrived while they were prepping dad for transport. The aid the same one who I was told had the flu, I asked him why he was there if he has the flu, and he said huh, I dont know what youre talking about, he had not been sick. At the hospital tests confirmed dads blood was septic from untreated infection,I text his nurse after the hospital staff basicallyu said there was no way that his hospice staff did not know he had an infection that the temp alone would have told them that. I text his nurse and he text me back admiting yes they did know he had an infection. Hours later his kidneys failed as a result of the sever dehydration, a combination of high fever and lasik. they started iv antibiotics and saline, I stayed right beside him, when 16 hours later he began to urinate just a little, but enough to tell his kidneys were weak but back online, he was stable and fever back down to 100, I had not slept in almost three days, dizzy and not quite functioning, since he was stable and improving i took a taxi home to get some rest. 1.5 hours later police were at my door saying my father was critical, when i got there they were putting him on a ventilator. They ended up transporting him to St. Josephs Phoenix and I followed by taxi, by the time I got there, his blood pressure was dropping heart and respiration weak. I started talking to him telling him I was there, playing music on my phone singing to him, he stopped dropping and started to come back up. As long as i was holding his hand and talking to him he continued to rise in pressure his pulse came back to 80 blood pressure had dropped all the way to 48/43 and came back to 76/51 still low but so much improved his respiration went from 17 back up to 24. staff came in and said that I needed to leave the room so they could perform some tests that it would not be long, maybe ten minutes I didnt want to let go of his hand but didnt want to stop them from helping him I left the room when i came in ten minutes later, his pulse was down to 44 and dropping fast, respiration 16 and falling, I started crying telling him i love him, there were tears running down his cheeks when they turned his machine off, he was still breathing on his own then he suddenly gasped for air and he was gone.
