Thank you my friend TSgt Joe C. for reminding us that on May 7, 1960 Leonid Il'ich Brezhnev, was selected as Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet—the Soviet equivalent to the presidency.
Ironically he was one of Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev’s most trusted protégés. a mere four years later in 1964, Nikita Khrushchev was removed from power and Brezhnev was named new first secretary. Brezhnev held that post for 18 years until his death in 1982.
Russian and USSR politics and procedures were ruthless but in some way they paled when compared to North Korea in the 1960s to this decade.

LIFE IN USSR 16. What Soviet people thought about Comrade Leonid Brezhnev?
"Ushanka Show" is a collection of stories about life in the USSR, Russia and Ukraine.
I was born in the USSR in 1971 and remember really well life Soviet style. ))

Remember it well. Never thought anyone would replace Khrushchev but guess that was the way of power in in USSR.
