Edward Jablonski's "Flying Fortress" has a ton of info on his initial missions and the successes and failures. Especially intercepting the Italian liner Roma at sea.

In the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program one of the training levels to earn the Billy Mitchell award is the point where one become a Cadet 2nd Lt. Only the Spatz award, named after General Carl Spatz is higher and earns a Cadet the rank of Cadet Colonel and very few ever achieve that level. In both cases a lot of Leadership training, aerospace education, military history, military training. Civil Air Patrol as the official Auxiliary of the US Air Force and was established the 1st of December 1941.
