Maj Robert Thornton Sad situation. If a soldier had actively attempted a suicide such as this service member, they need to be under constant surveillance. It also sounds like there wasn't a consistent therapist for SPC Valley to see. It takes time for anyone to reach a point where they are comfortable with a professional. Switching providers didn't help the situation. I also have to wonder if the reason for the suicide was related to a breakup with the girlfriend since he committed the act outside her apartment. Whatever the reason, the Army dropped the ball on this one.

When you look at his first method of suicide, that speaks to the seriousness of this Specialist’s problems. I never saw, in the article, his method at his girlfriend’s. This young man’s care was definitely not up to standard.
