Over all I consider the .308W the better choice. I wouldn't even consider the 300BLK as a hunting rifle. From the article; "Subsonic rounds should be sufficient to take down small varmints such as coyotes, groundhogs, etc." My .17 HMR works great for varmints and the ammo is lots cheaper. 300BLK was designed with a purpose in mind. It's probably great in it's designed role. But, I'm not going to be in a shoot house with feral hogs and Deer.

To me the Blackout is only good if you already have an AR-15 and don't want to invest in a dedicated 308. The interchangeability between the 556 and the Blackout, at least on an AR, is such that the only change required is the barrel. Want something for close quarters that isn't a shotgun, and is heavier than a 556? Blackout may be the way to go; although IMHO a slick-actioned 12 gauge with a 7+1 (or more) capacity is the close quarters king still reigning supreme.
If I want a dedicated 308 I'll take a PTR-91.
