This topic is one I've been preaching since the 70's. To anyone that would listen. I don't know where Fox got their $ amounts, from in my personal experience they're low balling salaries. It was always my intention to enlist. Before I did, I went through a paid apprenticeship in multicraft maintenance. The additional training allowed me to get in to one of the "Good" MOS's. If I hadn't been injured and then Medically discharged, I would have had a great career and retirement. As it was, I came out and went right in to Factory work as a "Fixer". Unemployment has never been a concern to me. I've never been unemployed for more than a couple of days, in between positions. At my current age of 65, soon to be 66, with my knowledge and years of experience, if I wanted un-retire I'd be on my tools before the end of next week. Un-retire, yeah don't see that happening. If you have a child or grandchild that likes to work with hand tools, allow them the option to pursue the calling.

I had thought about a trade at one point. My reason for not doing it was more than likely having to join a union. I did not like the unions I had to belong to before I joined the military and they've gotten worse in my estimation.

We will disagree on the usefulness of Unions Trent Most of my non AD time I was in one. I didn't like everything the union did but as a member I could vote my choice. I paid my dues and enjoyed the benefits including a union Rep for disciplinary actions. I was really good at saying things that pissed management off. Always have been. One of my favorites was, "You're emergency, does not instill a sense of urgency in me. I'll get to it in order of priority."

SGT (Join to see) I'm glad you had good experiences with them. I just haven't. The last two I had to deal with were AFGE and SEIU. I have nothing good to say about either one.

LTC Trent Klug - I see some of it in your naming of them. I was in trade unions, URW and USW. Those you name are more administrative.
