"Independents, who won him the election, now overwhelmingly have an unfavorable view of both the job he is doing and him personally. The majority coalition that elected him is gone, as those critical voters no longer view another four years of Biden as a positive."
Polling overwhelmingly backs that quote up. Conservatives are, for the most part, not "Squeaky Wheels". We tend to be quiet, and make our choices known through our actions. Remember the "Silent Majority"? You might not like Trump, but you must also look at where we'll be as a nation if Biden is re-elected. Can we survive another 4 years of the policies and legislation that have been coming from Washington of late. November is important. Don't cast a protest vote for the 3rd party. As a country we are not at the place in which a 3rd party candidate has a chance. If your not happy with the actions of your party of choice, get active in the workings of that party to affect change. As Americans we have that option. Votes are important, don't throw them away.

Hopefully not, but it all depends on the dems not being able to manufacture enough votes against Trump.

Part of the way to affect change is to not vote for a party that is not meeting your needs.
If people keep voting for EITHER party, despite that party failing, what incentive does the party have to change?
Bear in mind that, at the end of the day, votes are all that matters to politicians. If America resoundingly says "we refuse to vote for a guy who grabs women by their anatomy" that person WILL NOT BE A CANDIDATE. But you folks keep voting for him as the lesser of two evils. If America resoundingly says "we refuse to vote for a senile authoritarian" that person WILL NOT BE A CANDIDATE. But you folks keep voting him as the lesser of two evils.
Voting 3rd party is not "throwing your vote away." Voting for a candidate you don't want in office is.
By continuing to vote for "the lesser of two evils," you are actively working to PREVENT change. Until politicians stop getting elected, (or have it made known to them they will not be elected if they do (or don't do) a specific thing), they have no need to change - and will not.
In 2016, if everyone who voted for either Trump or Clinton because they didn't like either, but didn't want to throw their vote away would have voted HONESTLY, neither Clinton nor Trump would have gotten their 270. Johnson would have won at least a couple states. But this same "don't waste your vote" was trotted out by BOTH parties to ensure that the 3rd party candidates remained non-viable. And they CONTINUE to trot that out every election to keep you in check.
And the huddled masses from BOTH parties - and most if the independents, too! - just keep lapping it up like the domesticated animals they have become.

So,what happens if neither gets 270. The 3rd party candidate doesn't win it. it's still going to be the candidate from either the Dem or GoP. "As a country we are not at the place in which a 3rd party candidate has a chance." I stand by this statement. There are independents in Congress. That is as close to a coalition Government that the US is ever going to see. Vote for whomever you wish during the primaries. Maybe that person you don't like won't make it to the official ballot. In November you need to be voting Dem or GoP or your vote won't mean $}{!t. Even if you hate both candidates, you have to disregard emotion and vote policy.
