Ditto Brother Rick, most people don't put themselves in situations where they will need one IMHO
I too like to carry a Ruger LCP 380 for good measure and lighter clothing days.

No prefered caliber for me, round placement is KING.
But, a 380 cal pistol I don't own, due to the cost or the availability of the round. I did at one time own a Lama 380, a small 1911 style pistol, same thing in the 70's, 380 rounds were hard to get here, so I eather gave it away, or sold it.
Like Gene, I shoot better a 124gn 9mm round, and I notice the energy behind the round during impact, don't make it better, just more accrate for my two eye open shooting.
Today, this morning, as I looked what to carry today, came out with my S&W shield Performance center ported 45 model. Why, I just like the 45acp round, 6 rounds, just as if I was carring my 357 S&W 66, 3" barreled revolver.
I know most like and need the high capacity pistol, but to me it all comes to, Round placement is KING. It could be a 44mag or a 22LR, where the round strikes the target, will do it all the time.
I do have high capacity pistols in 9mm, 22lr, 40s&w and 45acp, they all shoot for "Round Placement".
Like Sgt Rick, I don't go out looking for trouble and visiting places it might occur. Just ready if Trouble Finds Me, and needs an invatation to dance.
"You all take it easy now, Ya Hear!" Gene, the picture is all 124gn, hollow and jacketed rounds. Lol

We aren't allowed high capacity magazines in my state and my pistols function better if I don't fill them. So at any given time, I start with 8 or less rounds. I agree with you, placement is KING.

How to shoot a Texas Star with a USPSA Grand Master!
Ever had trouble with a Texas Star? Join me and learn a thing or two about it! We go over the two most popular ways to attack the star. It's important to pr...
CPL Douglas Chrysler - Well shot placement is iffy when you find yourself in a situation where you need to pull your weapon and discharge it. Just be sure you place rounds in the area from the shoulders to the hips. As for caliber and bullet maker I would try all and find which one your firearm is most accurate with and you are comfortable shooting it.
As with anything gun related safety is your #1 concern followed up with practice I would highly recommend seeing if there are local IDPA or USPA matches you can attend. They will sharpen your skill and are a whole lot of fun. Just be ready in a USPSA match if someone sets up a Texas Star or spinners.

CPL Douglas Chrysler - My 15 round mags, I never need to fill to the top, 10 rounds are fine to me, but on occasion, I do have 15.
My old S&W 639 only has a 10 round mag, but I never need to fill it to the top, just don't miss. Lol
