"Dangelben was charged on July 7 with killing a police officer while in the performance of duty and possession of a firearm with an **obliterated serial number**. Federal Public Defender Matthew Campbell challenged the firearm charge, saying a recent Supreme Court ruling nullified the weapons charge." Emphasis Mine.
The question of a serial number is this Administration's main problem with "Ghost Guns", other than it goes *bang* and they hate anything that does that. No matter how this turns out in PR, it's going to be appealed, as it is an unanswered question in the continuing litigation concerning the 2A. Dangleben killed somebody with the gun, so He's going to be tried on a murder charge. I don't see that the serial number thing has any bearing, other than to add more time to his sentence.

Yep. It's just an additional charge to add years to a sentence. Its also a just in case he's acquitted or found guilty of a lesser murder charge.
