The nation’s new 988 hotline, intended to help anyone experiencing a mental health emergency, has been out of service for several hours Thursday.
Those trying to reach the line for help with suicide, depression or other mental health crises are greeted with a message that says the line is “experiencing a service outage.”

Alcohol is often a factor. I knew a full bird colonel and the Army Reserve who knew a lieutenant colonel in the Marine Corps Reserve. Both were DEA or Drug Enforcement Administration agents after years back. The lieutenant colonel committed suicide met his coworkers at a bar drinking and was frustrated with the job and he went home and shot himself. He was a single man and he moved at the ranks. We also have had incoming base commanders commit suicide as well and they don't tell anybody that they have issues and they are often alcohol related.
The newspaper article didn't say it was alcohol related but I'm telling you it was because of the full bird colonel I worked for told me this.

LTC (Join to see) with respects to all affected, sorry to hear. Thank you for sharing. I know of a lot Soldiers I served with committed suicide. So true. May they all R.I.P forevermore. Awareness is a big factor and communication in my honest opinion with the right connection.

SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL People need to recognize the signs of someone thinking of suicide. In almost every case there is some kind of warning sign. I took a class a few years back on Youth Mental Health First Aid where we learned many of the signs. I have referred a few students to the school mental health staff that I thought were at serious risk. Did it ever save anyone? Who knows? But if I didn't do something when I suspected a student was at risk, then I would have to live with this for the rest of my life.
