Rather than wreck it, Berger’s vision will save the Marine Corps from itself

I am totally against Berger's vision. He wants to stop the amphibious operations mission. They will not participate in a conventional war, and the ultimate objective is protecting the fleet. Given the current size of the Marine Corps is 182,000 and it will shrink by a few thousand, who will conduct the amphibious landings? Will the Marines watch from the ships as the Army conducts amphibious operations? If the US is involved in a large and hard-fought war, the Marines want to sit that out even if they have 172,000 Marines. What good is the purpose of the Marine Corps? Get on islands to protect the fleet? It looks to me that the Marines future resume amounts to doing nothing but protecting the fleet.

Goodbye, tanks: How the Marine Corps will change, and what it will lose, by ditching its armor
Commandant Gen. David H. Berger has said that should armor be needed by Marines, he would look to the Army to provide that capability.
