Neither do I. Unfortunately they’re very superficial and don’t delve deeply enough into a person’s environment and psyche. A loose cannon can still pass the check and go on to create mayhem in his community. I don’t know what the answer is.

The problem lies in the fact that if someone really wants a firearm bad enough, thy can get them from places other than a licensed dealer.

1LT Voyle Smith - The problem with background checks that as an active healthcare provider and shooter, I cannot tell you what mental health conditions are prevented from owning a weapon and which are allowed. The anti-gun would rather just prohibit all. I just completed my retirement process and the one thing that is not in my profile is PTSD. A few extra dollars is not worth my ability to own and shoot.

Legal gun owners have been dealing with background checks for 87 years - since 1934 when Congress passed legislation that required all gun sales to be recorded in a national registry as a way to regulate who owned firearms in the country.
The National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) was voted in 1993 and implemented in 1998
The criminals still don't use the system. (sarmark)
