Thank you my friend MAJ Dale E. Wilson, Ph.D. for posting the humorous music video of African elephants with birds riding along making fun of Toto's Down to Africa.
Since you mentioned Walk on the Wild Side ...

LTC Stephen F. - Lou Reed - he also popularized and made heroine addiction "cool" <sigh>

The song Heroin gives a realistic impression of the impact of Heroin my friend and didn't glorify it any sense IMHO SGT Mary G. .
Patti Smith's Horses does glorify heroin as well as S&M :-(

LTC Stephen F. - Its ages since I've listened to that song - but it was Velvet Underground and Nico - a friend owned the the album and we all listened to it. It must have been Lou Reed singing Heroin on the album. It did not ever seem clear whether Lou Reed was an EX-user or not, but it seemed that he and Andy Warhol attracted a following of folks who wanted to find out for themselves. I always connected Reed and Warhol. Looking at the Velvet Underground album cover again after all these years, I see why. Warhol did the cover. I always thought he must have been laughing all the way to the bank about a lot of his art . . . who could forget the Campbell Soup can. Just gonna say those folks did not look healthy . . .
I've never listened to Patti Smith songs that I know of . . . although I've heard the name. Don't suppose I will. Did met a youngish woman at a campus event in early 2000s who told me after we talked about a common interest that drew folks to the event, that she was working on her Master's degree . . . about S&M. What! I didn't even ask about the research she was doing, although it was clear she wanted to say more about it. I was cordial but uninterested.
Here you go my friend . . . with the song you mentioned. I might say it was "Grunge" before Grunge was a thing. Can recall being unimpressed by what seemed like a Bob Dylanesque sort of effort. Bob Dylan does Bob Dylan better. lol
