Good morning, Rallypoint. Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) is titled "Southern Sky at 38,000 Feet." We return again south of the equator in this composite image shot from an airliner on its way to Lima, Peru. The Milky Way begins at the upper left with the Coal Sack Nebula, Southern Cross, the Carina Nebula, and the Gum Nebula (right). The bright star below the Milky Way is Canopus. To the left of Canopus is the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), and the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) is just beginning to appear over the horizon at the lower left.
