Good “Thursday” Morning “Burroughs’ Posse Leader from the Sunny skies of Fort Myers where our current temperature is a balmy... 58°! I am working an IT shift today, so on and off RP most of the day... More to follow!

“Talking to Yourself Day!” Why Not?

1) "Have you realized that most of your unhappiness in life is due to the fact that you are listening to yourself instead of talking to yourself?" - Martyn Lloyd-Jones

2) "By talking to yourself about the things you have to be grateful for you can fill your mind with thoughts that soar and sing." - Dale Carnegie

3) "You find out what you think by talking to yourself." - Robert Harris

4) "If human emotions largely result from thinking, then one may appreciably control one's feelings by controlling one's thoughts - or by changing the internalized sentences, or self-talk, with which one largely created the feeling in the first place." - Albert Ellis

5) "Ours is the one ever-present voice in our lives. Therefore, it is crucial that our self-talk instill confidence within us and is supportive, not submerging, and that our attitudes toward ourselves help keep our spirits afloat through acceptance and trust. We are our own most important and influential buoy." - Sue Thoele

And as your career moves forward, know this...

“Great leaders know the most important person they’ll ever communicate with is themselves. What you say to yourself will determine the confidence you possess internally. You’re not crazy!” — COL (Ret) Mikel Burroughs

I hope that talking to yourself brings comfort to you when stress is attempting to get the better of you. Hopefully your conversations with those you treasure are more beneficial, edifying and focused on improving relationship. I expect you are more prone to mulling over ideas, plans and goals in your mind than simply talking to yourself. ‘Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the heart. To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice. [Proverbs 21:2-23 ESV] my brother-in-Christ Sgt (Join to see)

I lift the weakest members of society, the innocent and the outcasts to YOU dear LORD. I pray that YOU protect the weakest, the innocent and outcasts from those who would do harm to them. ‘Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.” [Psalm 82:3-4 ESV]
YOU are perfect in the Godhead and communicate perfectly. Of course, your communication within the Godhead is not self-talk but rather perfect communion. By YOU grace, YOU allow us to talk with ourselves in an imperfect reflection of YOUR communication within the Trinity.
LORD God I pray that YOU show mercy on those foolish enough to believe that they are the most important person they can communicate with. Open their eyes and ears to the blessing of fellowship with YOU which is the foundation of all other relationships for us. 'What is man that You take thought of him, and the son of man that You care for him. Yet You have made him a little lower than God, and You crown him with glory and majesty! [Psalm 8:4-5 ESV]
I pray for wisdom for each one who sincerely seeks wisdom from YOU for noble purposes. I pray that YOU pour out wisdom on each and that YOU fulfill their deepest desires in YOUR perfect timing. YOU blessed Solomon with much after he asked for wisdom to lead the people of Israel. Empower each of us to lead our families in humility with wisdom. Protect us from hubris. ‘Let your heart hold fast my words; keep my commandments, and live. Get wisdom; get insight; do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth. Do not forsake her, and she will keep you; love her, and she will guard you.’ [Proverbs 4b-6 ESV]
As far as those leaders who are filled with hubris and believe they know what is best, independent of relationship with YOU, I pray that YOU thwart their plans for self-aggrandizement. ‘Destroy, O Lord, divide their tongues; for I see violence and strife in the city. Day and night they go around it on its walls, and iniquity and trouble are within it; 11 ruin is in its midst; oppression and fraud do not depart from its marketplace.’ [Psalm 55:9-11 ESV]
I pray that you and your family members sleep well Wednesday night and will awake refreshed and healthy on Thursday morning.
By the power and authority of the Name above all names, Jesus the Christ.

Whew so I am not crazy. I do answer myself sometimes as well. I have spoke to this before... negative speak kills a lot of confidence in all we do. Applying to distance running, if you are having doubts it wears on you more than the physical strain. It has to apply in other things we do in the same manner. If you think you cant....you wont. Happy Thursday.

Great advice and wisdom while running and talking to yourself "Yes, you can make another mile!" Thanks for sharing and I answer myself quite often and it's rather enjoyable Maj Marty Hogan - it's followed by laughing at myself most of the time...

“Talking to yourself is not an uncommon occurrence and shouldn’t be treated like one. You should always be able to look inside and discuss the possibilities with yourself or seek your own experienced advice. You’re not crazy, that is for sure. Confident individuals and leaders will always refer to their inner self for sound advice and reasoning. Remember, thinking or writing is just another way of talking to yourself. May you always feel comfortable talking to yourself when seeking the right answers in life; may you always possess the positive attitude that will fill your mind and thoughts with the ability to soar to new heights; may your mind, body, and soul be opened to grace, goodness, peace, forgiveness, and a continued bountiful life of purpose; and keep your family safe, secure, happy, and healthy. ‘Of Course, I talk to myself. Sometimes I need expert advice.’ Listen, you may find out what you’re looking for.” — COL (Ret) Mikel Burroughs

Good morning Col Burroughs and Posse. I think most of us are professional self talkers. The question you need to ask yourself is "what kind of self talk do I engage in?" Is it negative or positive? Do you spend your time finding fault with your actions or those of other people or are you building up your confidence and attitude? Think about what you are saying in those conversations and if they are negative, what can you do to change them and make them more productive?
