Good morning, Rallypoint. Today's Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD) is titled "Journey into the Cosmic Reef." This video animation (1:18 + musical background) takes you to features found in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC): NGC 2014 and NGC 2020, collectively known as the Cosmic Reef. NGC 2014 (forefront) is an emission nebula glowing with the red of hydrogen and nitrogen. NGC 2020, with its Wolf-Rayet star in the center, consists of oxygen. Both were discovered by John Herschel in 1836.
