Interesting video, SGT James Murphy! I was in Giza and Cairo in AUG87 for Operation Bright Star and had the opportunity to visit the Sphinx and the Great Pyramid of Giza (also known as the Pyramid of Khufu or the Pyramid of Cheops).
What most people don’t know is that these ancient structures are really close to the western edge of Giza. All the photos are always taken looking east to west and all you see is desert. However, if you photograph from west to east, you’ll see people, cars, buildings (a restaurant that does a night show of the Sphinx) and vegetation! It was eye opening and kind of disappointing!
The camel rider was chasing us! He wanted to be paid for being in the photo! Right!
By the way, we were there in August, which just made it more hot. The pyramids are at the easternmost edge of the Libyan Desert, and temperatures were routinely 115 degrees Fahrenheit and hotter!
Here are a few photos that illustrate my comments.
