Good post. One of the reasons I am so effective as a grief and loss counselor is because I have walked that path personally

That will always be the case Lt Col Charlie Brown, because our own trauma gives us an instant-connection to the one who is suffering. We lost Will, an Army combat Veteran, to suicide in October 2017, and when I went to his funeral, I was able to connect with his widow like few others could, because I had lost my wife to suicide twenty years earlier.
Recently, one of the couples in my church lost their son to a sudden illness, and I was able to connect with them because I had lost my middle daughter to cancer last year. Our own trauma prepares us as no class or textbook ever could. Pat-answers never work, but heartfelt connection does.
