I would hope that the US military is exploring other means of defending against drones. This is a universal threat, one which all branches need to be prepared to counter. And, the treat is only going to get worse as smaller drones are capable of carrying larger payloads. Are we going to launch missiles at a drone that can fit in your hand and yet carry enough explosive to do serious damage? Would a Stinger even be able to target such a thing?

We can shoot down mortars, I can't see why we can't shoot down drones.

It seems pairing the old VADS style system with a good radar control would be ideal for this threat.

The problem is that we have gotten used to fighting in a low threat environment. Back in the 80’s & 90’s our perceived enemies had big guns, lots of aircraft and many tanks. We had the defenses to counter those threats. Now after fighting guys who ride horses for the last 17 years, we have forgotten about the other big guns out there.
