First Vietnamese-American general takes command of US Army Japan

Maj. Gen. Viet Xuan Luong, the former deputy commanding general for operations at Eighth Army in South Korea, took over from Maj. Gen. James Pasquarette during a Tuesday morning change-of-command ceremony at Camp Zama.

Luong will be responsible for 2,500 soldiers, civilians and family members throughout 16 installations in mainland Japan and Okinawa.
