Dúlaman by Celtic Woman
Lyrics
"A 'níon mhín ó, sin anall na fir shúirí
A mháithairin mhín ó, cuir na roithléan go dtí mé
Dúlamán na binne buí, dúlamán Gaelach
Dúlamán na farraige, be'fhearr a bhí in Éirinn
Tá ceann buí óir are an dúlamán gaelach
Tá dhá chluais mhaol are an dúlamán maorach
Bróga breaca dubha are an dúlamán gaelach
Tá bearéad agus triús are an dúlamán maorach
Góide a thug na tíre thú? arsa an dúlamán gaelach
Ag súirí le do níon, arsa an dúlamán maorach
Rachaimid chun Niúir leis an dúlamán gaelach
Ceannóimid bróga daora are an dúlamán maorach
Ó chuir mé scéala chuici, go gceannóinn cíor dí
'Sé'n scéal a chuir sí chugam, go raibh a ceann cíortha
Cha bhfaigheann…"

I was lost on the 1st few words on the 1st line...
Picking up on another language;
I had been working on learning German and had made up my own cards with 4x5 lined index cards.. and hadin small notebooks. I had. Been studying extensively. After returning from deploy in the Philllipines and while recovering in the hospital I had been talking in my sleep in German according to the staff at UND Hospital(Grand Forks Base Hospital wasn’t set up as a Trauma type Hospital.. it had a field grade one .. Get one stable and air evacuation to a facility more able to handle a patient’s sit-rep). Anyway The Sister-nurses found someone in their group that knew German. I seemed to had been carrying on good conversations in my “.Other-world”. Which was kind of comical because when awake I had to work to get the sentences right. Pronunciation was good.. I seemed to have that right roll of the tongue.. So someone thought I needed some med to help me sleep better.. the doc ruled that out.. talking in one’s sleep is good for head trauma. A part of recovery..
Doc stated.(ihpo-in his prof opinion). I had some books I had gathered that were printed in German.. it’s still kind of difficult..
I did it kind of as a hobby and thought As a useful tool somewhere
Along the way in life. Also had some friends in North Dakota <~( Walhala) and in Canada up the road from there that talk in German quite a bit . (IMHO) I believe it’s to keep with their Germanic heritage.. Some people may believe those there need to assimilate into
today’s society as the Muslims should do.. The Hutterites and others in their group aren’t the problem.. We’ll you can’t force the Muslims if you will not force the Hutterites to assimilate..
Here I went off into another sit-rep..
I was riding on a intercity bus to a county job in Detroit a few times and overhead a couple women speaking in German.. As I got off I
Commented; “Haben Sie eine Guten tag miene damen!”(have a good day ladies!). .. On other days later they moved or started speaking faster.. thinking I couldn’t keep up.. they were right on that..
I was only picking up piecemeal...
(If there were big events going on and park’g was at a premium(they raised their rates) I rode the bus for a couple $.. it saved me gas too..
and i’d See them nice ladies again..
