Interesting read (understatement) CW5 Jack Cardwell. Stories like this are placed in the trunk while videos of children being seperated from their parents because of illegal immigration are thrust into the spotlight. As a civilized Nation (for the most part), we rightfully feel sorrow for those who are collateral damage from this immigration crisis, all the while demanding that our Country keep us “safe at all costs!”
Many of us unfortunately will agree with “all costs” until we find just what those costs are.
The drug cartels in Mexico can make no more money in Mexico. You can only put so many Walmart Supercenters within 5 miles of each other before they start shutting each other down. When that happens, you either have to decide to be happy with what you have or start expanding your area of operations and developing a new business strategy.
Unfortunately, the United States is just that to these cartels; a new business strategy. The expansion plan for a “legitimate” industry south of the border that is backed by just as much money and organization as many of our own states, and they don’t have a Federal deficit.
What is the answer?
In my opinion, I can only point problems out without offering any reasonable solutions. In that respect, I imagine I would have made a pretty good Congressman.
However, I can say (with some degree of accuracy) that the answer doesn’t rest solely in the hands of the liberal left or the conservative right.
I use to think of our government parties as “Yin and Yang”. You know, kind of synergistic. They would compliment each other and keep each other “honest.”
That “SYSTEM”, that would work well here. Politicians getting together to work on a sincere solution. To sit down and actually seek a mission statement.
Something to the effect of:
“To continue to promote the spirit in which this Country of immigrants was created while still providing for the highest degree of National Security possible.”
From that, develope the objectives:
1. To maintain or increase National Security
2. To identify the past, current and future threats that Mexican drug cartels pose to the United States
3. To provide for the humane and ethical treatment of current and future illegal immigrants in the United States
This was quick. 5 minutes, a cup of coffee and a pencil and a notebook. We pay the average Congressman $170,000 annually with benefits, I make whatever they think I’m worth as a disabled veteran.
I refuse to believe that the very best that our political process has to offer is “more of the same.”
Heck Chief, I just veered so far off course from the intent of your posted article that I’m not even sure if anyone even remembers the original article was about drug cartels most likely backing an entire police department that was so corrupt that they assassinated a mayoral candidate (allegedly). I do, however, believe if we fail to recognize and admit that deportation and these cartels are part of a shared problem we will find ourselves in the middle of a war on our soil that has the possibility to change the face of our Nation forever.
In summary: “Can’t we all just get along?”, LOL.
(The illustration, “If you cannot find peace within yourself, you will never find it anywhere else.”, I believe holds true for our Country.)

We’ve been to Mexico four times, CW5 Jack Cardwell. It’s getting harder and harder to think of Mexico as a safe country to visit any longer.

I understand what you're saying, A1C Doug Towsley, and to a large extent I agree. We've been to the traditional vacation spots like Cancun and Cabo San Lucas. We never really had any difficulty, although in old Cancun we were fairly certain we were being followed.
It's just there are a numbers of factors that now exist there in combination, so my wife and I have concluded that we'll simply spend our vacation time and money elsewhere.
