Thanks for letting us know Maj Marty Hogan that December 2 is the anniversary of the birth of U.S. Army soldier who rose to the rank of General Alexander Meigs "Al" Haig Jr. and then served as the United States Secretary of State under President Ronald Reagan and the White House Chief of Staff under Presidents Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford.
His comments after President Reagan was shot were blown out of proportion. Since Haig was in DC and the Vice President was traveling it stood to reason that the number 3 in the POTUS chain who was in DC would be making decisions on the ground.
Of course when Haig indicated Reagan might change the Constitutionally designated order of succession that was a shot across the bow to VP Bush.
