How can anyone respect a Draft Dodger or follow anyone who refused to do what you do daily and insulted one of our own and the family of a fallen brother

Nothing wrong being a Boy Scout or being in a youth group that inspires.

Absolutely nothing wrong about giving troubled kids some structure. Most boy scouts are not troubled kids......and telling them what a disaster Obama care is, and how he won the electoral college, and how fake the news is......serves no constructive purpose in my view.

SSgt Gary Andrews - First, indoctrinating youth in government public school is hardly the same as your perception of indoctrination of a group of scouts, who are part of an organization who's purpose is to teach them a wealth of skills to prepare them for life. No one is required to join the scouts, and everyone is pretty much aware of what they have to offer before deciding to join. So where you find double standard here is beyond me.
That said, you're right in that a lot of what Trump said was unnecessary and unproductive, but he also offered a lot of inspiration points as well. My issue isn't the politics he spoke of, but rather the rhetoric meant to insult his counterparts. I'd rather my scouts not take that example and learn to be humble, team oriented, and gracious. Courteous and kind from the Scout law come to mind.

Here is my take as a Scout Leader who has a 5 Scouts at Jamboree right now; one is my son. The Jamboree kicked off with a band who gave a shout out for LGBTQ which was met with mostly boos and some cheers. My son didn't know what a LGBTQ was so, thanks for adding sexuality to a crowd of 35,000 Scouts. So right off the bat, politics were injected into the Jamboree.
Some of the parents at Jambo were very vocal they didn't want their Scouts subjected to POTUS. Again, bring on the politics...
President Obama had two opportunities to speak at Jambo and declined both times. Probably political but I can't read his mind.
BSA is a largely family oriented conservative minded youth organization that teaches respect for all, appreciation of the outdoors and an active lifestyle, but most importantly teaches young men how to plan, prepare and execute a plan. It gives them a safe place to fail without consequences - they have the opportunity to learn in a safe environment. There is no mention of sexual conduct for scouts except by the LGBTQ crowd. The official position of any Scouter I know is that sexual conduct as a Scout is not tolerated. There shouldn't be any political correctness read into this, but there is...
I've heard politicians address the BSA before (Rick Perry as Governor of TX at a statewide event) and he kept the speech appropriate to BSA, Scouts, Scouters and their experiences as a Scout and later in life. It was very motivational and made me a Rick Perry fan while deepening my respect for what the BSA builds in young men.
There is too much politics in the BSA right now and Pres Trump played into that. I wish he hadn't but my son reports that the Scouts absolutely loved hearing him talk. As for the vocal parents who didn't want their Scouts to hear the Pres, they were given a legitimate argument but the politics card was already played at Jambo.
Take it for what it is, Pres Trump will not allow an opportunity to pass to be political; most politicians won't... At least your Scout got the opportunity to hear a world leader for the first time since GW Bush was at Jamboree. If the Dems don't want to take the opportunity to address the BSA, that is a political move all by itself.

All I saw was a 70 year old man whining and bloviating to a group of teenagers about politics.
