Interesting LTC Ivan Raiklin, Esq.. This may be a cover story of sorts
I was interested at the language used
1. "The Pentagon will now also have to defend against the potential North Korean missile threat without the use of one of its premier ballistic missile defense ships, after USS Fitzgerald, a guided-missile destroyer, struck a 700-foot cargo ship off the coast of Japan last week." The Philippine-flagged ACX Crystal container ship struck the USS Fitzgerald (DDG-62) as the former attempted to pass the USS Fitzgerald.
2. this article focused on attest of the SM-3 interceptor missile but showed an image of a SM2 interceptor missile launch.
3. By definition some missiles are point intercept while others are area [arrow versus grenade].
4. Failure to intercept is only one measure that a counter ICBM would be tested on.
5. These kind of tests, like many others, learn more from failure to meet objectives than success. WE don't know what counter measures were employed in the test. It stands to reason that counter measures may well be used and I would expect they would be higher quality that Iran or North Korea would be capable of using.
6. IMHO, most likely, we learned much more form this test than previous tests especially successful
"A medium-range ballistic missile was launched from a test range in Hawaii at 7:20 p.m. local time, but the interceptor missile fired at sea from USS John Paul Jones, a guided-missile destroyer, missed the target.
"A planned intercept was not achieved," the statement said.
A U.S. defense official told Fox News both the ballistic missile and the SM-3 interceptor missile fired from the American warship landed in the ocean, but neither was recovered after both missiles broke up when impacting the water."
