Idiots. See this is what happens when you are used to giving up your belongings to the government. Give us your guns! OK! Give us your knives! OK! Hey we just found $2 Million in gold bars! Let's give it to the government! Yeah!
Nope, had that been me, that gold would have been buried and used later. When they bought the tank, everything inside it became their property.
They will never see that gold again.

That would be quite a surprise. Don't think I will go buy a tank though on the hope of finding gold. Hard to justify that purchase.

Alan K. - I am still looking for an old cannon, Napoleon era or older. Found one in Germany, after I shipped my HHG... One day I will find one.

Had a guy call our bank in regards to exchanging Iraqi Dinars he had on hand from God knows where. I said, "uh, good luck with that, sir." I guess he didn't know it's illegal for banks to take restricted foreign currency in the U.S. On a separate note, this story triggered a memory I had since I caught "amnesia" a few years after deploying. I remembered that I had placed my gold bullion somewhere to keep it safe, but forgot all about the location due to the amnesiac incident. Guess I better get in touch with this man and let him know I left it in the tank he purchased! Hallelujah, I'm rich again!

Alan K. - Haha! Will do! Make sure you don't hold your breath. I have a feeling he's not going to believe me for some odd reason.

The bank at the US Embassy compound in Bahgdad (green zone) was selling New Iraqi Dinars at fair exchange rates as an investment. The hope being the value would increase. I have $200.00 worth myself. I knew of several people who were buying large quantities and paying to have it held at Swiss banks. I was told the easiest place to exchange it at is an international airport currency exchange point. Unfortunately that exchange rate is usually less than fair.
