Thanks for reminding us that Maxwell Taylor, Dean Rusk, Robert McNamara, and other members of the National Security Council–agreed to recommend that the President Lyndon Johnson adopt a plan for a two-stage escalation of the bombing of North Vietnam back in 1964 to boost South Vietnamese morale, to cut down infiltration of Communist troops from the north, and to force Hanoi to stop its support of the insurgency in South Vietnam. I would have hoped that Operation Rolling Thunder would have been continued into the 1970's SP5 Mark Kuzinski.
While our bombing techniques had advanced since WWII they were not nearly as accurate at today. However we were able to inflict much damage to the infrastructure of North Vietnam as well as significant damage to assets moving along the Ho Chi Minh trail network - but that was another operation.

I remember when President Johnson called a halt to bombing the North. I was a young A1C assigned to the TUAC. We recalled all but 4 of our fighters. They ended up bombing the north. I heard Johnson was pissed off and wanted names. Well after 26 years I retired as a CMSgt so I guess he never got my name. Those were crazy times!! The ROE was hard to live with at times.
