China, Russia Plan Joint Military Drills in South China Sea

It is interesting that the two major communist powers [who are slowly embracing capitalism] are working together in joint naval exercises SP5 Mark Kuzinski. While they still have a significant distrust of each other, their concern about the influence of the USA in the region is more troubling to them.
Russia backs China's position against the tribunal's ruling earlier this month which ruled decisively against China in the disputed South China Sea area. It is not surprising that China wants to negotiate bilaterally with the other Southeast Asian countries instead of negotiating with all of them at once. Divide and conquer has worked well for them in the past internally and externally.
