The biggest problem I see in the system is the institutional knowledge does not exist for most SMs who will go through the MEB. A good portion of the SMs are already handicapped by a mind that does not think crystal clearly. The knowledge of the requisite path to navigate the Military, VA, and SS are the Veterans who went down the same road, often discovering through trial and error, but they are gone. Another point of contention is these agency representatives see their parochial spectrum of their endeavor, therefore, the SMs can't see the big picture. I propose a little handbook that covers Profiles, Exams, MEB, WTU, PEBLO, VA Rep, VSO, and SS, and a checklist of tasks i.e. sign up for Delta Dental, Tricare Prime, GI bill distribution in order to help the SMs understand the process and help them from making crucial mistakes like I did with Delta Dental. I think I would can make a handbook but will need an SOP and Coordinating Agencies, however, this is beyond my energy level now. It will require a team effort.

SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL - I can do a handbook for dummies, but without much detail.

MAJ Ken Landgren - I know there are enough posters to be able to come together to create a handbook. All we need are the folks who know the business rules and operational responsibilities of each organization.

After my first discharge, I left Ft Lewis with a VA Claim number on a wallet sized card that I still have. I did not even have to ask for it!
