I remember back in 97 that in order to even get in the door with the SF recruiter you had to get 70 points in each event. I don't know if that was per age group or the 18 yr old scale. I do know that Airborne School requires you to perform at the 18 year old scale.
So whether or not this is more stringent or lax is up for debate unless someone has more facts on the requirements before this change.

If we are comparing these new standards to the current APFT, they have actually raised the standards. I will assume the PU and SU events are still conducting within 2 minutes. I think they are very reasonable as "minimum" standards. I am curious as to what the time limit is for the 6 pull-ups and what the exact performance standards are for them...

I guess it would be interesting to know what changed. The new requirements allude say "all of these changes will be reflected in..." The physical requirements seem pretty low to me. 59 sit ups (no time frame given), 2 miles in over 15 minutes and 6 pull ups isn't even a first class PFT in the Marines (we don't/didn't do push ups) and ran 3 miles.
If I adjust the run to 3 miles in 22 minutes and use 6 pull ups and 59 sit ups (in two minutes) that is a 3rd class PFT score in the Marines for a 25 year old Man (we don't have push ups but do have a Combat Fitness test to complete too).
