Be careful, not all Career counselors are up to date with this information, I already have a Top Secret, a 120 GT score and a 115 ST, I have been an NCO since February, I am a 91C, which is one of the most meaningless, dead end MOS out there, so I'm desperately trying to reclass into something more rewarding, to make a long story short, my career counselor turn me back right away saying that they were not looking for NCO without ALC, which I argued that the MILPER message says nothing about this, It does say about SSD but not about ALC, so I just took it upon myself to contact the school house, where they were extremely helpful and gave me great motivation to apply, because I am fully eligible, so don't just take the info someone gives you. do your research.

I'll keep that in mind SGM, and thank you, I just feel frustrated because so far in my 5 year military career, I never had anyone like a squad leader or a platoon sergeant tell me the importance of things or the guidance I could have used, everything I have accomplished I can honestly say I have taken upon myself to do, e.i. retaking the ASVAB cause it was really low, or enrolling in college and actually finishing a degree, or applying for a clearance to open more opportunities. So my troops sometimes get overwhelmed just because I want them to not do the same but maybe even better, and take all the opportunities and challenges the Army sometimes offer us, I wish I had an NCO push me or put my name for a Military school. So not saying anything bad about the Army cause I love it, but I think I could have easily had given up. I think that is one of the reasons I always find the need to research a little bit further than a simple verbal answer, of course never overstepping or disrespecting any superiors.

SGT (Join to see) He was probably getting the information for 25D confused with 17C. If the BN career counselor doesn't have the right information you can always contact the BDE or garrison career counselor and they will make sure everyone is on the same page.
Good job pushing your troops to do the things needed to advance their career. They might not appreciate it now, but they will in a few years.

I ran into a similar situation with this and 25D. Counselor said if I don't have certs of any kind, then I can't reclass. Coming from 68W to these new 17C or 25D is proving more difficult than I originally expected. I have a 140GT, Technology at 140 too. SGT (Join to see) Do you have info for school house contact? My connection here is limited thus not really able to get to a lot of sites.

Good Job SGT's. You might just be what we are looking for; go-getters. With the Army drawing down, I don't imagine too many units are eager to lose their people, and the challenge of getting here is all on you. But if you can, and if you do, the rewards are immense. The 25D and 17C courses are a bit um Fire-Hose style, so brush up on your Linux before you start; it will help greatly!

I hope these guys are going to have an extensive SRR, or people like myself will make it impossible for you guys to reenlist them.

Not everyone is about the $$$$$ sign. The need and money will STILL be there when we all retire. Cyber Security isn't going away any time soon.

I agree with you. However I am sure computer programmers in the early 2000's felt the same way. Now 15 years later landscape has changed. 20 years of change in the field of IT and Cyber will leave veterans transitioning at retirement in a lot different situation than they would find themselves today. Cyber Defense and application development are the new kids on the block but it will not stay that way once applications run cyber defense.

No, he's right
The issue of 6 figures vs 5 will always be a topic of discussion. Playing Devil's Adv i would ask the military why its so difficult to pay these men and women what they are worth. I have nearly 20 yrs in an i am going to retire and get that 6 figure salary, but more than that, the respect of my peers and a chance to continue this field. Try telling my Wife that i shouldn't get out. Lol. The services are aware of this issue and they are doing what they can to spice the pot but it only goes so far. Case in point a drill sergeant gets extra pay, but us cyber folks havent seen any of that extra credit. The addage that 'if you don't treat someone or something nice you will lose it', has never been more true. Mission First, Family Always! Everyone is entitled to freedom of expression, and never forget whether 10 yrs 20, or 30 it's still just a job, not a marriage.
