Think about it. A healthy swamp is infact full of life and unless man destroys the environment with toxic waste, it is a valuable resource that filters freshwater before it drains into the sea. How does a President "drain the swamp" without becoming a dictator who would destroy everything good we are evolving toward? An invasive species could alter the swamp ecosystem and result in our demise as a nation. The metaphor may be appealing to some, but it is missing the target with educated women. What would happen to Duck Dynasty?

I think you're reading to far into it. We need to see the bodies at the bottom. Even then, there are systems in place to ensure 4-5 inches of water always remain. As much as he yells, Trump is not a one man show...unless he doesn't mind shooting himself twice in the back of the head.

We should extend the metaphor. Drain the swamp, round up the alligators, and make shoes and purses in the USA!

The President can "drain the swamp without becoming a dictator" through his/her power of appointment to the courts and cabinet. Appoint women and men who will be honest and trustworthy on the bench and in Government Departments. He or she can demand accountability from the executive branch in reaching clear goals he/she sets. She/he can strive to carry through on campaign promises and report honestly to the American People on progress toward those goals. He/she can strive to break the cycle of people becoming consultants and lobbyists when their party is out of power and political appointees when their party is in power. Finally, he/she can support Constitutional Amendments to limit terms of Congress people and Federal judges and to return the selection of Senators to the state legislatures. None of the things I've listed require dictatorial power. Probably won't happen if the next President is a "she."

Lt Col Jim Coe based on what we have seen so far, I can see Pence being an honest broker, but the rest will not be capable. Statements like "they will do what I say" in discussing the military's return to torture, killing whole villages to get at insurgents, stopping those who would enter this country legally, exporting 11 million illegals, and having a brand name in business that will continue to bear his name while the president is no different from the Clinton Foundation. Even if your children are running it, do you trust a man who hasn't paid taxes in 20 years? He admires the leadership styles of? You have great faith in someone who simply doesn't exist. Unless one learns to work with his party and can become a team player, I see no hope in "draining the swamp". The balance of power will lean in a direction in which 38% actually favor. That means a majority of us are deeply concerned about the rhetoric, erratic behavior and more than once insinuating or condoning violence. Selection of senators to the state legislature. Interesting concept. The brain drain would definitely empower the executive branch.

Col Rebecca Lorraine - We probably won't agree on whom to vote for. State legislatures selecting Senators was the original plan in the Constitution.

Evolving toward? It's a bit early for politics Ma'am.

I got the impression the Trump was referring to a stagnate swamp of one party system that no longer cared what the American people thought.

What are we evolving toward Ma'am? The Middle East and the death of so many in the sea trying to get to Greece and Turkey tells me without the word in a man's heart, humans will murder and rape each other.

I suppose our national dept will evolve us back to 1880 PDQ if we are not careful.

Have a good day COL.

Cpl Mark A. Morris I started this question last night, but I believe we are evolving (good and bad; survival is paramount) to accept the change of media, technology, global migrations that occur in hours as opposed to 100s of years, racial and cultural integration, and a greater equality. What is painful is that those who had priveledge of being a majority must now change. Resistant is futile in this case. We must evolve to preserve the republic. The cultural crisis and resistance we face is either our demise or our transition to a new level of governing. Everyone wants to return to when white men reigned supreme and that is not possible. Was that a kinder position?

Col Rebecca Lorraine - White men reined supreme?
Who here writes we need to return to when white men reined supreme?
The destruction of the west''s morality and culture of limited government is not to be celebrated. The New Age you write about is based on a lie and Communism only works with stone age villages.
Your view is an example of extremism. It shows your desire to attack what helped women and the world the most.
There are a lot of white men that marched with MLK. Two white males were murdered that agreed with MLK. Also, let us not forget the sacrifice so many white males made in the Civil War. Where the end of slavery was the moral high ground.
Have a good day Ma'am.

It is factual in the United States and unless the darn history books are wrong, women were allowed to vote 100 years ago. Did white men not reign supreme at our Declaration of Independence. Damn, more liberal lies. I realize I'm not a valued and respect voice in the mix, but some are too blind to see. America has been a white male nation for 240 years. Women, blacks hispanics and all the new fresh faces still come here for a dream and this nationalist, angry and condemning discourse suffocates honesty, respect, and my comments and question were about the labeling bullying name calling and metaphors that are meaningless. "Believe me!" Let's end this on a positive note. You are too easily offended. Imagine that. Cpl Mark A. Morris -

Draining the Swamp is also called land reclamation. Making land that is not usable, usable.

Amazing how an expression can have several different interpretations depending on various points of view. Draining the swamp sound a bit like 'getting rid of deadwood' and makes me hope I am not going to end up deadwood or sucked down and out when the swamp is drained. It did happen once before and was not a pleasant experience.

Capt Tom Brown I guess it is a point of view. If you do drain a swamp, what have you really done? The good and bad are all treated equally and thrown out. Like the baby with the bath water. I'm sorry you felt like deadwood. That's awful.

Ironically, DC is build on land that was particularly swamp. Appropriate that the State Department is in an area called Foggy Bottom because of the vapor coming off the swamp.

SGT Tim Soyars great analogy! We did create a shining city on a hill in what was intended to be a wetland.

"Drain the swamp" is just a contraction of "The objective of all dedicated employees is to thoroughly analyze all situations, anticipate all problems prior to their occurrence, have answers for these problems, and move swiftly to solve these problems when called upon. However, when you are up to your ass in alligators, it is difficult to remember that your initial objective was to drain the swamp."

Capt Seid Waddell I suppose that would be true. However, draining the swamp will just anger them, make them more hungry as you just took away their food supply. (Literally and metaphorically)

You just gave a great decriminalization of the first law of ecolog. A law that applies to humans ans most is science. " You can not change just one thing" It is also known as the law of unintended consquences. It is a law that people feline with complex system ignore at their peril.
Sorry if I am preaching to the choir

Precisely so. How about we all stop paying those who fail to perform. That usually fixes things, not to get bogged down with science, but having lived in Florida for 25 years, I appreciate the hard work our swamps do. Their natural design. Highly functional until man thinks he knows more. It's not offensive simply an error which belies a tendency toward sound bites that resonate and manipulating the less educated masses.
