LTC Stephen F. this is just as compelling as the list for the 67 Union Generals, unbelievable. Thank you for sharing this historic thread. Well said and profoundly conveyed.

Confederate Records are a bit harder to come by, not so much from them not keeping them. but from them being destroyed by Confederate Forces retreating or Union Forces burning buildings that were used for military storage.

Thanks for weighing in László Kertész. Many civil war sites list his name as as Granberry. I did a little digging and confirmed that he is Hiram Bronson Granbury. I am editing my comment accordingly. My friend LTC Stephen C. spelled it correctly.

LTC Stephen F. - Hiram B. Granbury is one of my favorite Confederate generals. Here is his 54mm high painted figure, is a pride of my collection.

I knew some of the details about Franklin - that was by far the worst lost for the Confederacy. With Sherman taking out Chattanooga, Atlanta and the Savannah and then Hood losing Nashville Lee was more or less fending for himself up in Virginia. Hoods plan to push north up in into Kentucky and then link up with Lee was a little on the crazy side.

Franklin was a compltete Disaster for the Army of Tennessee. Hood had the right idea in trying to catch Schofield's smaller force before it reached sanctuary in Nashville, but he underestimated the stregnth of the Union Defenses. Hood was an aggressive commander but he should never has been given Command of anything bigger than a Division.
