Be prepared for the worst and hope for the best. Isn't the way people write contracts? A side effect would be that more young men and women will attend college for a potential deferment.

Draft registration is the law for all able bodies males age 18 and above it is called the Selective Service System. Personally I would like to see the mandate expanded to women 18 and older.

Did selective service registration ever stop? I thought it was still going for all men 18 years old and older.

I believe there SHOULD be a draft. But I say that with some cynicism. First, every one that qualifies should do their duty to protect our country. Maybe the discipline and honor would prevent some of the younger generation to avoid the rampant violence that has become so common. By the same token, that training could be used in violent gang warfare. It looks like basic training isn't the same as it was during my time. It's too Politically correct. It was a lot tougher, and DI's had more options to keep us recruits on the straight and narrow. It wasn't fun, but it made me a better and more responsible person. I salute all those men and women who have volunteered, but they are being taxed to the limit. I'm also sure that China, North Korea, Russia and Iran are very happy with the shape our military is in.

Sgt Leonard Bustin, Having everyone pre-registered would not only save time, it would catch the creeps that don't wanna do that!
