Which Veteran/Military Organizations are you a member of, are you an active member, and why or why not?
The organization/ non-profits I am involved with include:
Wounded Warrior Project (WWP): email list on different events to participate in free of charge. My wife and I attended some events, no complaints.
Army Wounded Warrior (AW2): email lists with local events and employment opportunities
American Legion: just enrolled recently waiting to see how this will help
Team Red, White, and Blue: vets and civilian supporters getting together for runs, hiking, etc
Big Brothers of Pikes Peak: events and mentor children. In a sports buddy program with military child
Hire Heroes USA: help translate military experience and qualifications to a professional civilian resume. Help with employment- networking events
Operation TBI Freedom: assistance with transitioning and managing health concerns
Vet Centers: Help with counseling (marital, behavioral health, etc..) instead of waiting for months for VA
-------------These are just some. If you know anyone in Colorado Springs send them my contact so I can point them in the right direction. i do hope that VFWs and American Legions do more to appeal to Post 9/11 vets. I really would hate to see them disappear.

Not posting this as an anti-VFW thing, but just where younger veterans are going towards.

Younger veterans bypass VFW, American Legion for service, fitness groups
Kate Hoit served eight years in the Army Reserves, including a tour in Iraq, but when she tried to join her local Veterans of Foreign Wars chapter, someone asked whether she needed an application for military spouses instead.

We hosted Military Times last month and the article they wrote is now out. Pretty happy to have been the Commander of 5 years for this organization and we started making the changes about 10 years ago. http://www.militarytimes.com/story/veterans/2015/07/18/how--save-your-vfw-post-does--first-post-have--cure/30233057/
I haven't joined others because i haven't made an effort to and they have not made an effort to find me.
I am not currently active in any post because my life is pretty full with 3 kids.
