Good Red Friday morning, Rallypoint, and welcome to the March 11th Astronomy Picture of the Day (APOD): "When Rainbows Smile." Have you ever seen a sun dog? When the sun and a viewer are in the right places, the same ice crystals can also cause a circumzenithal arc to form. This phenomenon is the product of refraction and reflection of light by the same ice crystals. This image comes from Ragusa, Sicily, on February 24th of this year.

I've been wondering about this for the last 44 years. I remember Robert De Nero in the opening scenes of "The Deer Hunter" talking about 'Sun Dogs' while he and his friends get out of work at the steel mill and are walking to their cars in the parking lot. I'd never heard of them before. So Thank You @William W. 'Bill' Price ! ...now I know.
