The article starts by making it clear They are both 7.62mm bullets/.30 Cal. the 300 is about 5/8' shorter. Designed for full burn in 9' barrels. A longer barrel and your bullet is slowing down due to friction, So that vaunted 2250fps ain't happening in a carbine or standard length. 300 only has 3 choices for factory loads. To each His own, I'mma stick with .308 Win.

The .300 Blackout is a design that is a sub-sonic firing so a silencer would be efective with the round. Silencers do not work with supersonic bullets since they are breaking the sound barrier.
No silencer can quieten that "CRACK!" you have with the .308/7.62

At 400+ yards, there isn't a chance that the game hears the shot and flinches or jumps early. I will always prefer the 7.62x51. It's ingrained.

That true for the fields, but most my hunts take
place in the woods at ranges under 100 meters.

I'll stay with my M852 Match rounds (I have several thousand rounds of 7.62 x 51 Match brass which I load with 42.0 grains of IMR4895, Federal Match Primers (yes, I saw it coming and am well stocked on Match primers) behind a 168 grain Sierra Match King. I trim the brass regularly. Shooting from a "Joe White" M-14.
