August 21, 1922 - Lawrence Sperry drops landing gear from his airplane and lands on skids.
Conducting a demonstration for top Army Air Service brass, Lawrence Sperry released the entire wheels and landing gear from his airplane. He then made a perfect landing bringing the plane to a dead stop 50ft from where his airplanes skids first touched the ground.
The first to land on skids, Sperry demonstrates the capability of landing in rough fields full of knolls and ditches to top Army Air Service brass.
