The Spirit of Christmas for Our Veterans - Heather Grove Assisted Living for Veterans - Denver, CO
RP Members, Connections, and Friends had a wonderful Saturday providing Christmas Gifts and a Christmas Dinner to the Veterans who live at Heather Grove Assisted Living Facility in Denver, CO.
I'm proud to be a member of The American Legion Riders Post 178 that provide a great meal and Christmas Gifts every year for the over 40 plus veterans that reside at the Heather Grove Assisted Living Facility here in Denver, CO
Here are some 2018 Christmas memories made yesterday at Heather Grove!

The American Legion post in Mission Viejo, CA provides Christmas in Summer to the Vets at the VA Hospital in Long Beach, CA because the halls are crowded with other organizations at actual Christmas Time, and they're forgotten the rest of the year. Our VFW post goes almost every month and conducts bingo games with $500 worth of chits the Vets can spend in the canteen, among other presents. Sadly, even Vets with family are often forgotten most of the year as relatives tire of trekking to the hospital after a few months. As you might expect, the Vets express their gratitude openly just to have someone care and talk to them...

to share an observation:
My wife spent decades as a Long Term Care nurse, usually in Geriatrics, but also in rehabilitation. It's a sad fact of life that so many people in the latter years tend to be just ignored and forgotten.
I would love to see some studies on the psychology and it's impact on people.

I'm a Paid Up For Life PUFL member of the American Legion Post 288 in Williamsburg OH. every year we hold a Christmas dinner and Santa Clause for needy kids and kids of deployed veterans we also have the Ohio Veterans home in Georgetown Ohio the childhood home of U.S. Grant and do events throughout the year for them also. I'm also the Post 288 Service Officer helping returning veterans and any veterans with service or VA questions they may have or need help with.
I'm very proud to be a member of this proud upstanding organization. Even though I was denied membership for many years until 2008 when I was finally accepted even though I'm a Viet Nam ERA i was denied because all my time served was in the National Guard except for my time in Basic and AIT

CPT Jack Durish I love all the things that your American Legion Post does out of Mission Viejo, CA. I also like what you do with the VFW Post. I'd like to get a handle on theose bracelets you hand out. Can you provide me with the supplier, so I can do that here at my American Legion Rider Group in Lakewood, CO?

What an awesome thing to do. Leading from the front per usual. What a great gesture.

We've done this every year for many years and we've lost a lot of our borthers over the year and then there are new ones that come to the assisted living facility. It's great to shake their hands, pat them on the back, serve those that can't get up to go through the line, and give them gifts each year Maj Marty Hogan We alos serve them Thanksgiving Dinner each year as well. It's great mission of giving back to our Veterans Marty! It's an honor to serve!

Great photos COL Mikel J. Burroughs Looks like everyone was enjoying themselves. The company and a chance to socialize means even more than the gifts I am sure.
