I was a combat engineer private at age 18 in 1975 SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL. The Vietnam War was winding down.
I had a basic will at age 18 and SGLI was $50k at that time.
Each generation need to wrestle with the cost of freedom and how many are willing to defend it as military service members or police and security force personnel.

I was commissioned as an Infantry Officer on May 28, 1980. I went though IMPOC and IOBC and became fully qualified an as Infantry Officer and Mortar Officer. My infantry company time was spent in West Germany during the Cold War. After going back to Fort Benning in August 1984 I went through IOAC and was assigned as an infantry training company commander at Harmony Church. We trained Initial entry training (IET) soldiers to become qualified infantrymen. I left Fort Benning in April 1989 and PCSed to the D.C. area.
Now my darling wife and I have a family trust which includes wills for both of us as well as powers of attorney.

LTC Stephen F.,SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL for me it was a major big deal to make a decision on death benefits at 23 years old. The Navy was supposed to have been an adventure for me.

Maybe that's why our young troops grow up and the civilian kids grow old.
