There are significant differences between the "Know Nothings" of the past, and the resistance to illegal immigration and globalist ideologies of today. I can't speak for all, but for my own part, I don't personally care where someone "came from"...what color their skin is, or what language they grew up speaking. I even tried to help an Afghan make it to the U.S. (unsuccessfully as it turned out...even with a Congressman's help)..and have long thought the legal process needs simplification.
What concerns me, and I presume many others, are two key questions: First-without some measure of security and control at the borders, how do we prevent known criminals, cartel/gang members, terrorists, and other agents of our enemies from gaining untraceable access. Second-if scores of illegal immigrants are then introduced into our social welfare systems and/or allowed to vote in our elections...what is the economic and political impact upon those of us who have either been born citizens, or achieved that status through due process?
I "get" that many cringe at the very notion of "citizenship", let alone any sort of national sovereignty...but without both, we slip closer to a global socio-economic system, and from a historical/cultural perspective, I don't see that as a win.

None of us can state with certainty what is in Trump's heart.....he may be a racist, he may not be. But one thing is clear.....he traffics in it, and uses it to political advantage whenever he sees the opportunity. When my family moved to the south in the mid 60's, I was in high school, and I heard that "Why don't you go back where you came from" phrase more than once......and there was no doubt that it was a racially motivated statement that was meant as a slur. It's distressing to hear that sort of language coming to the forefront again.......especially by a person of high position and influence.
