Thanks for letting us know SGT John " Mac " McConnell that on November 12, 1892, William “Pudge” Heffelfinger became the first professional football player when Pittsburgh’s Allegheny Athletic Association paid him $500 to play as a ringer in a game against its rival Pittsburgh Athletic Club.
Out of tawdry beginnings a multi-billion-dollar enterprise was born.
Sadly corruption seems to have been intermingled with incredible talent at times
With the current state of misguided protests in the NFL it is interesting that professional football started out as a criminal enterprise.

Seems fair to me. Why shouldn't those who put on a show share in the proceeds? I've often wondered the same about all "amateur" sports which seem to make a helluva lot of money for everybody but the athletes themselves.
