Where I grew up foxes were just another varmint. Pests. Destructive. Hunted. Killed. Although it's an interesting experiment, I have to wonder, how many "pets" do we need? As our population grows, we become more crowded. Our homes become smaller. In Japan, which has been dealing with overcrowding for a very long time, we see human adaptations. People develop behaviors that allow them to live in close proximity to their neighbors, smelling their cooking, hearing their fights, and not allowing themselves to be aware of them. They share pets at commercial establishments that allow them to sit for a time among dogs and cats and pet or groom them, or play with them. As I look around me here in America, I see dogs, especially large dogs, being kept in small apartments. You can tell just by looking at their feet when they walk that they aren't getting enough exercise, and they're obese with all the attendant health problems. So, go right ahead domesticating more wild animals. Personally, I think it's a bad idea

I agree with you on pets in urban environments. However, there are many pepople that live in the country. I have 5 dogs and 10 cats. All are free range and don't bother anyone except visitors and varmits. Dogs are your best protection when you live in rural areas. They keep thiefs away as well as other animals. My cats kill snakes, mice and rats. I'd rather find a dead mouse on my porch than in my kitchen. I do have a slightly overweight dog because she was fixed as well as all my female cats. Somehow some way I seem to find a puppy or a kitten after losing a dog or a cat. I have known people that have wild animal as pets. I know for a fact that some animals need to stay wild unless it was injured by a human. Opinions vary.......

MSgt (Join to see) I would want to see if early human handling makes a difference first.
