Turkish defence minister cautions US counterpart against PYD support

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — In the defense chiefs’ first meeting at a summit at NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Turkish Minister Fikri Isik warned the new US Secretary of Defense James Mattis of the dangers of supporting fighters associated with the Democratic Union Party (PYD) in northern Syria.
The U.S. has been supporting PYD (Democratic Parties Union). Pictures of U.S. forces wearing the YPG insignia(People's Protection Unit, the military wing of PYD) have circulated throughout the middle east drawing rebuke from Turkey . The reason Turkey is against the PYD is because it is aligned with the PKK (Kurdistan Workers Party) that has been fighting against the Turkish Government for three decades.
The U.S. official position on the matter is that the PYD is a different organization than the PKK.

We need the Kurds in Iraq, so I am not sure how we are going to play this one.

CPT (Join to see) I will leave it to SD Mattis to decide whether PYD and PKK are different organizations.IMO he has done pretty so far and his past is exemplary.
