Thanks for sharing SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL. I concur with Napoleon Bonaparte as number one and agree that Robert E. Lee and Julius Caesar. I think Erwin Rommel for both his WWI and WWI leadership would have placed him in the top ten.
I expect they had to put a woman in Joan of Arc but I wouldn't have put her in as top ten since much information about her is legendary.
[I am out of up votes for the day.]

That list maker has a very poor understanding of "Western History" and of what constitutes a General.
I'm honestly suprised he didn't have Field Marshal Konrad von Hotzendorf based off his apparent grasp of what makes for a top tier historical General. But since that author's articles consist exclusivley of "Top 10" listicles, I'm not shocked at all that quality and accuracy took a backseat to volume.
I don't have a list of top 10 commanders in mind myself but I'll see about whipping it up. The criteria are as follow:
1) Must have been an actual General or equivilent station.
2) Must demonstrate tactical acumen.
3) Must demonstrate strategic acumen.
4) Must have command/inspired loyalty in their troops.
5) Must be strongly associated with a country or region of the Western World (since it's a Generals of Western History list).
I'll post again when I have something cooked up.
