This is not acceptable in any way shape fashion or form. Unfortunately, the mentalities of perpetrators and the OKedness of it all has been put in the minds of military men and women for decades and it will not change overnight. People in power positions abuse that power and think nothing will ever happen. I wish we could go to bed and wake up the next day and not hear anything about sexual assault but that isn't going to be the case. Fortunately, it has come to light in the last couple of years and it is getting the attention it needs to eradicate this cancer. It will take time but I firmly believe that when we stop punishing the victims and more people start reporting and we start shooting people at dawn so to speak people will realize that it isn't ok and it is not right.
I have a daughter who is in nursing school and she gets cat calls all the time walking around her school. She handles it perfectly but God forbid the man that ever assaults her...he will wish his parents had never met!!! I say that to say this...this isn't just a military problem...it is a society problem and the military is just a microcosm of our society. But it especially needs to be eradicated in the military because trust in your fellow service members saves lives...without that trust we cannot accomplish the mission.

1 is too many
Zero should be the goal
Like combat deaths
1 or 0 is an unrealistic expectation.
Folks banging their head and screaming it should be so are only wasting energy and resources.
The military is made up of what every town has.
Mostly great Americans, but also some murders, rapists, thugs and thieves.
Add to that the immature nature of a large demographic of military members, poor dedication making capabilities in the best case but made worse by alcohol, stress, peer pressure and close living / working conditions and you add another group that lowers them self further then they might if the circumstances were not there (that is not justification, just observation )
The demographic that is knowingly sexually assaulting others because they are criminally mentally ill or Because they just think they can.
Catch, prosecute, jail, discharge.
Help the victims
Those that can have their behavior modified before they offend, great.
Those situations we can remove to prevent the settings where the raspiest can take advantage do it.
The reality humans are violent, most suppress that and live well with others, some don’t and offend.
Some normally suppress but can be open to triggers to offend.
In short Humans suck, when they offend deal with it and stop wringing hands that they did. You cannot affect humans being human.
No service member rapes
Another because they did not know or forgot it was wrong. So another briefing to say rape is bad is going to fix the issue.
Reminding service members that consent under the influence of intoxicants is not could perhaps help some.
Reminding service members that consent from those that can not give it ( age, prohibited relationships, ect) is no excuse and will be treated the same as if the violated party had screamed NO could perhaps help

In fact, it is getting worse. Perpetrators should be broken at the wheel, or forced to walk the gauntlet, then dishonorably discharged.
