The FBI had spoken with the kid and father a year ago. No mention of what “hunting rifles” the father had. Were they semiautomatic, bolt or lever action?
Regardless of any of that, how did this evil kid get his hands on the rifle he used in this heinous crime? Did he have the combination to the gun safe, if there was a gun safe?
When my boys were growing up, every one of my firearms had a trigger lock an I was the only one with a key.

As Kids, Living In Michigan, Where Hunting Is A Tradition,
There Were Rifles, Hand Guns, Bows And Other Weapons In About Every Home,
But To The Best Of My Memory There Was Never Any Mass Shooting Of Others Or,
For That Matter Anyone. ... We Were Taught How To Use Them Safely And When
To Use Them For Protection,

I betting another kid with mental health issues and lack of parental guidance - kids can't raise themselves - spare the rod and spoil the child...

At Some Point In Their Life, Kids Know Right From Wrong,

Unfortunately, this is all too often the case with crime. Law enforcement gets tips but can't act because of Constitutional rights, and neither can anyone else except the parents.

I'm not defending the killer or his actions. It's unfortunately one of the side effects of living in a free society.
