Key point is that they let the scientists, not politicians shape their response. Beyond that Sweeden is a relatively small country that really doesn't have the dense populations seen in other parts of the world so ya it works for them but isn't necessarily the model that should have been used in the rest of the world. Couple that with the fact that National Review is a right leaning publication that naturally would jump on anything that indicates stay at home was not the proper response to COVID-19.

I would argue that the politicians and experts beyond the medical field collaborate to come up with a response based on the best information from medicine, business and education. They had the model for Taiwan and Korea to look at and decide what would work and what didn't. The problem here is that the advice of a handful of "experts" have driven a panic about millions of deaths that didn't turn out to be true, without considering the long term effects of putting 30,000,000 people out of work. What's the long term effects on health of massive unemployment? Then add the fact that the sudden influx of unemployed has crippled most states unemployment systems, most of which were antiquated and badly designed in the first place. Here there are people that were furloughed the first of March that still haven't collected a check. I was furloughed 3/20 and still haven't seen a dime from the state or federal government. I'm relatively lucky, I been able to keep my bills paid up, but I doubt most people are in the shape to go 2 months without a paycheck. Even if they get that part fixed, unemployment here only covers about 60 percent of your take home pay and the federal kicker only last to the end off July. I personally will be shocked if more than 50 percent of those furloughed will still have jobs.

Interesting the similar results, with totally different strategies. In the long term Herd Immunity will be reflected.

MCPO Roger Collins, I’m not sure about that. The US, Italy, and Spain were reactive and late in implementing preventive measures, and some of the U.S. measures were half-measures, such as travel restrictions instead of total bans that still allowed for over 45,000 travelers from China to enter the U.S. after infections were first identified, and many measures being recommended instead of required. Those reactive policies and lax enforcement may not put us on the same track as Sweden, but we are also not on the same track as Canada, South Korea, Norway, Denmark, and Mew Zealand.
It’s clear early and proactive implementation of well enforced preventive measures saves live and shortens the time span to recovery.
