I like the Pinks and Greens better than the Blues but my all time favorite is the Dress Greens. Does anyone know why they call them Pinks and Greens? Wheres the pink and green?

1SG Steven Kirkman - Yes, sir. Pinks & Greens are actually two shades of Olive Drab. The dark "green" jacket is Olive Drab shade 51. The light "pink" trousers are Olive Drab shade 54. Under certain light conditions, the light color trousers take on a pinkish hue -- a long way from the color "pink." Those interested in details of uniforms should read the U.S. ARMY UNIFORMS series of books by Shelby Stanton.

I preferred the permanent press version of the Khakis, but I can't remember what we called them, but it was not khakis.

CW5 Jack Cardwell, this would be the best uniform change that the Army has made since it ditched pinks and greens post WWII. The changing of dress blues to ASUs was simply the latest in a continuing series of poor uniform changes. I can only assume (hope) that the black beret will be ditched in its entirety. I would hope that the Army would return to the service cap and the garrsion cap. I'd go so far as to ditch the maroon beret for traditional airborne units and return to the garrison cap with a glider patch. I realize that I'm very likely in the minority on this, but it would be a return to a tradition in which the airborne came of age.
Pinks and greens were for officers only during WWII, but I'm all for implementing the change to pinks and greens for everyone in the Army. I only wish this change had been made while I was still serving.
The two photos show how the glider patch was worn by officer personnel and enlisted personnel (the hats are archaic and materials would be changed to match the pinks and greens).

I have my father's old garrison cap somewhere. It wears the glider patch. I like the looks of the links and greens, just lots of my friends that are still in not happy about another new uniform they have to buy. LTC Stephen C.

Only photo of me wearing a garrison cap with a glider patch, CW5 Jack Cardwell. I was headed to Fort Bragg and Camp Mackall, and never wore it again! It was taken in the 47th Company area at Fort Benning (11or12APR70), just before we got on the bus to go to Fort Bragg.
I know many are upset at the prospect of new uniform purchases. I don't blame them in the least, especially with the Army's track record of changing uniforms so frequently.
